This website runs on a server of DigitalOcean, LLC (New York, USA) in a data center in Frankfurt, Germany. When you open a page, your browser sends technical data to the server: IP address, date and time, the requested page, the referring page and the browser type. The server needs these data to deliver the page. The server does not store your IP address, not even in its logs. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in a secure and working website.
The operators of this website and its pages take the protection of your personal data very seriously. Hence, we handle your personal data as confidential information and in compliance with the statutory data protection regulations and this Data Protection Declaration.
This website sets one cookie, named "language". It stores the language you chose, for example "de", so that your next visit opens in that language. This website contains no social media plug-ins and no embedded content from other providers. All files (fonts, scripts, images) load from our own server. Links to the App Store and Google Play are plain links: Apple or Google receive data only when you click them.

This section describes the data that the DataScan app for iPhone, iPad and Android processes. Both of our servers are located in Frankfurt, Germany (DigitalOcean).
Your scans, lists, lookup data and settings are stored only on your device. We have no access to them. They leave the device only when you export or share them yourself: by email, file sharing, FTP or SFTP to a server you choose. Server passwords stay on the device. Device backups (iCloud on iPhone and iPad, Google backup on Android) include the app data under your own account.
The app sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to our own server analytics.keitgen.de (Countly, self-hosted). Usage statistics show which features are used, for example scan mode, export format, settings on or off, session length and app version, plus device model, operating system, language and country. Crash reports contain the technical error and the device state at that moment (memory, storage, battery). A device identifier groups the data of one installation. On iPhone and iPad the app creates it at random; on Android it is an identifier that the operating system provides for our apps only. We never send names, email addresses, barcode contents, file names or server addresses. The server uses your IP address only at the moment of receipt to determine your country. It does not store it, not even in its logs. There is no advertising, no tracking across apps and no transfer to third parties. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in improving the app and fixing errors.
Only the Multiple Value scan mode uses your location, and only when you tap its GPS or Weather button. The coordinates are saved with the scan on your device. For weather, the app sends the coordinates to Apple Weather (iPhone and iPad) or to Open-Meteo (Android, open-meteo.com), which return the current weather. We do not receive your location.
If your company gives you an activation code, the app sends the code, the company name you enter, a device identifier and, on iPhone and iPad, an anonymous iCloud account identifier to our server api.datascan.app. We store these data to check the code and to count the devices per code, for as long as the code is in use. On request, we delete them. This server does not store IP addresses, not even in its logs. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract).
Subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We receive no payment data and no names.
On Android, barcode recognition (Google ML Kit) runs on the device. Google ML Kit and Google Play services for location can send technical diagnostic data to Google. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy.
